Tragic Statistic

On Saturday, two Black Hawk helicopters crashed in Iraq, killing 17 American soldiers. Those fatalities mark a morbid milestone: more than twice the number of American soldiers have been killed since President Bush declared combat over, than died during the actual war.

Bring 'em on, indeed.

How ever did Bush decide that the "war" was "over" in the first place? US soldiers are still shooting Iraqis. Iraqis are still shooting US soldiers. The main goals of the war (except for securing the oil fields) have not been reached.

Over indeed!

I think the 'war' was over when the organized resistance fell apart and the coalition marched into Baghdad. Bush has been (surprisingly) short-sighed in trying to see what the forces were going to do after they'd taken over. In fact, I'm not sure he thought past the oil fields.
